Frequently asked questions

Reservations

  • How can I make a reservation?

  • You can book your experience through our online store. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at outisenratsastuskeskus@gmail.com. We're happy to help!

  • Can I get a refund if I can't make it to my reservation?

  • Low season (April–October): You will receive a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before your scheduled time.

  • High season (November–March): You will receive a full refund if you cancel at least 7 days before your reservation.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds for cancellations made outside of these terms.

  • What if the weather is bad and what should I wear?

  • Cold weather is part of the Finnish riding experience! During wintertime, we recommend dressing warmly and in layers:

    • Wool socks

    • Thick pants and a winter jacket

    • A scarf and a light hat or balaclava (to wear under your helmet)

  • We recommend always as well:

    • Shoes with heels so the foot can't get stuck in the stirrup.

    • Full-length pants and gloves with grip to prevent abrasions.

  • Very cold days are often the most beautiful in winter. At Outinen Horse Riding Centre, we are surrounded by forest, which makes the weather calmer and drier—even when it's freezing. Just make sure to dress appropriately!

  • We have a -30°C limit for safety. If the temperature drops below this, we will not ride. In such cases, we will do our best to reschedule your reservation. If rescheduling isn’t possible, you will receive a full refund.

Services

  • Can I ride if I have no experience with horses?

  • Absolutely! Our horses are calm, gentle, and well-trained—perfect for beginners. Before the ride, we will give you clear instructions to ensure you feel comfortable and confident. The most important things are to breathe, relax, and trust your horse.

  • Who can ride on horseback?

  • If you can move and balance your body—as you would while walking, jogging, or skiing—you can usually ride a horse, regardless of body size. If you have questions, have a contact with us.

  • We also offer therapeutic riding for people with disabilities. If you're interested, please contact us at outisenratsastuskeskus@gmail.com for more information.

  • What if I can’t or don’t want to ride on horseback?

  • No problem! You can book a horse-drawn sleigh ride instead. This is a great option if you prefer not to ride, have physical limitations etc. You’ll stay warm and cozy under blankets and reindeer hides while enjoying the peaceful ride through the forest.

  • How many people can be in an one sleigh?

  • Horses can usually pull one adult and two children + driver, for instance. If you have a bigger group, you can book multiple reservations, one after the other.

Others

  • What are your payment options?

  • You can pay easily through our online store using common payment methods such as credit/debit cards, mobile payment apps, and online banking (depending on your provider). All payments are secure and confirmed instantly.

  • Do I need my own insurance?

  • We recommend having your own personal insurance that covers horseback riding activities. Although we have insurance for our customers, it’s always best to check with your provider in advance to confirm coverage.

  • How can I get to Outinen Horse Riding Centre?

    • By Bus:

    • You can check routes and schedules at www.matkahuolto.fi.

    • Our nearest bus stop is called Outijoki / Outijoki E.

    • Look for the road signs to our farm near the stop.

    • Some bus lines may not display the stop online—if that's the case, you can purchase your ticket to Leväranta th, which is nearby.

    • Even if your ticket is to Leväranta, you can usually ask the driver to stop at Outijoki, which is located between Uutela and Leväranta stops.

    • By Car:

    • You are welcome to arrive by your own vehicle or rental car. Farm is located 12 km from Kemijärvi and 35 km from Pyhätunturi. You can see large brown signs before the intersection. There is parking available at the farm.
